In the edit
You’re in the middle of editing a wedding gallery when your Mac decides to go to sleep, or the screen saver kicks in during a client review. One Switch sits in the menu bar and gives you direct control over those system behaviours without diving into System Settings.
Keep the Mac awake when you need it
One Switch can send the Mac to sleep or set automatic sleep and wake times. Handy when you want to leave a long export running overnight but still save power.
Toggle appearance and screen saver
Switch between light and dark mode instantly, or start the screen saver manually when you step away from the desk. You can also hide desktop icons to keep a clean view during presentations.
Connect AirPods and manage notifications
The app handles quick AirPods connection and lets you silence notifications with one click. You choose which switches appear in the menu bar and hide the ones you rarely use, so the list stays tidy.
The Do Not Disturb toggle can turn off automatically
One Switch has a few touches that don't get mentioned often but make daily use smoother. The Do Not Disturb toggle, for example, isn't just on or off — you can set it to turn off automatically after a chosen duration. Useful when you need an hour of quiet for a client call but don't want to remember to switch it back on.
You can also automate the Light and Dark appearance switch during the day. Set it once and the Mac follows your schedule without you opening the app again. That's one less thing to think about when you're moving between editing and reviewing proofs.
If you use the concept in your work — switching between different display modes or audio outputs depending on where you are in a shoot — One Switch keeps those changes in the menu bar. No digging into system panels.
Hide desktop icons and switch resolutions in two clicks
Say you're about to show a couple their wedding gallery on your Mac. Here's how One Switch gets the screen ready in a few clicks:
- Hide desktop icons — no stray files or folders cluttering the view.
- Switch to Do Not Disturb — notifications won't pop up during the slideshow.
- Turn on Dark Mode — photos often look better against a dark background, especially in a dim room.
When the review is done, click each switch again to restore your normal setup. No need to remember where the settings live in System Settings. The whole process takes seconds.
Keep your Mac awake during long file transfers
I photograph weddings on Saturdays, and by Sunday morning I'm usually backing up cards and culling selects. The Mac needs to stay awake while files transfer, but I also want the screen to turn off after a few minutes to save power. One Switch lets me set the sleep and wake schedule for that window, then revert to normal behaviour when the backup finishes.
During the edit, I often connect AirPods to listen to music or a podcast while masking and colour correcting. The AirPods switch in the menu bar means I don't open Bluetooth Preferences every time. And when I step away for tea, a quick click starts the screen saver so no one sees my work in progress.
It's the kind of app that fades into the background after a week — you stop noticing it's there until you use another Mac and wonder why you can't hide icons or switch dark mode in one click.
