In the edit

You are halfway through a wedding edit, and the client wants a subtle light-leak transition between the ceremony and the reception. You open FxFactory Pro, find the right effect, drag it to the timeline, and move on. That is the point: it gets out of your way.

Plugin manager

FxFactory Pro is a management environment for visual effects plugins. It connects plugins to your host application, applies them to content, and handles preview and rendering — all without writing a line of code.

Host support

The package works inside Final Cut Pro, Motion, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve. That covers the main NLEs and motion tools a working editor touches.

Built for motion graphics artists who need 16-bit and 32-bit processing

FxFactory Pro suits different Mac users in different ways, but a few groups tend to lean on it heavily. Motion graphics artists who build templates for clients find the Pro Pack plugins useful because they handle 16-bit and 32-bit processing, which matters when you are layering grades and grain over a graphic. Plugin designers who want to distribute their own effects without writing code from scratch get the visual builder, so they can prototype and release faster. And if you are a freelancer who lands in other people's edit suites, the fact that FxFactory Pro registers effects system-wide means your go-to looks travel with you on a portable drive.

Browse categories first to uncover free tools you did not know about

When you first install FxFactory Pro, the built-in interface lists every effect available on your system. Take a few minutes to browse the categories rather than diving straight into a project. You will spot free tools you did not know were included — some are surprisingly useful for quick fixes. Open your host application and apply one effect to a test clip. Just one. See how it behaves on the timeline, how the controls map to your screen real estate. The plugin manager also lets you disable effects you never use, which keeps the menu shorter when you are under deadline.

Workflow: applying a colour treatment across a short sequence

Say you have a two-minute interview that needs a consistent colour look across all clips. Open FxFactory Pro and locate a colour-grade effect from your installed library. Click it to see the parameters — no need to drag anything yet. In your host application, select the first clip on the timeline, then apply the effect through the FxFactory panel. Adjust the exposure, tint, and saturation to match the feel you want. Copy that effect from the first clip and paste it onto the remaining clips in the sequence. Preview the entire timeline in real time; the rendering pipeline in FxFactory Pro means you are seeing the final look, not a proxy. If one clip needs a slight tweak — maybe the white balance shifted between takes — open that clip's effect parameters independently and adjust without breaking the others. When the sequence is locked, export normally. The effects render as part of the output, so there is no extra step.

Buy plugins and see them in Final Cut Pro without extra setup

FxFactory Pro includes support for buying and registering commercial products directly from the interface. The FxPlug integration is another one: after installation, effects appear in Final Cut Pro, Motion, and After Effects without extra configuration. If you are on an Apple Silicon Mac, the x86 and ARM support means older effects built for Intel still run without Rosetta in some cases, which saves a bit of launch time. No hunting through Finder folders.

Works on Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma without disabling security

The latest build includes support for macOS 12.6 and later, which means editors who stayed on Monterey are covered alongside those on Ventura and Sonoma. The installation method now works without disabling System Integrity Protection, so you keep full security on your Mac while using third-party effects. For users on Apple Silicon, the package installs natively where possible, and the same installer handles Intel machines. The Pro Pack plugins continue to support 16-bit and 32-bit colour processing, which has become more relevant as more editors deliver HDR content. The built-in interface for browsing and managing effects remains the central hub, but the underlying plugin registration and activation flow has been updated to match current macOS permissions.

Who leans on FxFactory Pro the most

Editors who jump between projects with different visual styles get the most out of it. A corporate video needs clean text overlays and subtle transitions; a music video asks for glitch effects and colour washes. Having a single plugin manager that holds both means you are not hunting through separate installer files when the brief changes. Colourists who work in DaVinci Resolve but occasionally cut in Premiere Pro also benefit — FxFactory Pro registers effects in both hosts, so the look you build in one environment transfers to the other without rebuilding.

First days: get comfortable with the interface before a deadline

After installing, open the FxFactory Pro interface and spend ten minutes clicking through the effect categories. You do not need to apply anything yet. Notice how effects are grouped — colour, stylize, generators, transitions. Each group has a preview thumbnail and a short description. Pick one effect from a category you rarely use, say a generator or a light effect, and drop it onto a test clip in your host application. Adjust a few sliders to see how the parameters affect the output. The goal is not to make something beautiful; it is to learn where the controls live so that when a client asks for something specific, you know which slider to reach for.

Another early habit: disable the effects you will never use. Open the plugin manager, find the list of installed plugins, and uncheck the ones that came with other software or that you downloaded on a whim. Fewer menu items means less scrolling when you are racing a deadline.

Workflow: building a transition package for a multi-camera edit

Imagine you are cutting a three-camera event — a live performance, a panel discussion, or a launch event. You have twelve camera angles and need to switch between them without jarring cuts. Open FxFactory Pro and navigate to the transitions category. Browse the available transition effects and pick three that share a similar visual language: a clean wipe, a subtle light leak, and a soft blur dissolve. Click each one to preview its default behaviour.

In your host application, arrange your timeline so the primary angle runs on the main track and secondary angles sit on tracks above. Place a cut at each switch point. Select the first cut point, then apply the wipe transition from the FxFactory panel. Adjust the duration to match the rhythm of the performance — a fast wipe for a beat change, a slower one for a pause. Apply the light leak to the next cut, and the blur dissolve to the third. Preview the sequence. If the light leak feels too dominant, open its parameters and reduce the opacity or scale it down until it sits behind the action.

Once you are happy with the three transitions, save them as a preset group. Name it something like “Live event quick switches”. Now when you cut the next multi-camera project, you can load that preset and apply the same three transitions in order without rebuilding each one. The effects render inside the host timeline, so export happens as normal — no separate render pass required.

Version 9.0.5-8654 runs on macOS 12.6 or later and supports both ARM (Apple Silicon) and x86 64-bit Intel processors. The interface is English.
